Mangasia: Wonderlands Of Asian Comics Exhibition In Rome

Dates: 07.10.17 - 21.01.18. Address: Palazzo delle Esposizioni, 194 Via Nazionale, 00184 Rome, Italy.

The Mangasia: Wonderlands Of Asian Comics exhibition in Rome takes place until the 21st of January 2018 at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni. The exhibition presents the largest selection ever of artworks from Asian comics. It is curated by Paul Gravett and has been developed by The Barbican Centre (London). The printed, mass-produced forms are displayed alongside the original artworks, many of which have rarely been exhibited outside their country of origin. With the Mangasia world expanding rapidly, the exhibition displays important materials not only from the founding cultures of Manga, including countries like Japan, Korea, China, and Malaysia, but also from the new world countries, such as Cambodia, Mongolia and Vietnam. The exhibition endeavours to explore the precursors of comics found in Asia’s abundant visual narrative traditions. Finally, visitors will also learn about the continuing impact Manga comics have beyond the printed page: live-action and animated film and television, music, games, fashion and contemporary art.
